Box Score 2 MELBOURNE— Polk State Softball led in both games of the doubleheader but big innings from Eastern Florida State College was the difference on Tuesday. The Titans took both games by a combined 15 runs.
After putting the first game away with a six-run fifth inning for a 12-5 victory, Eastern Florida State College completed the sweep with a five-inning run-rule victory, 10-2.
Polk State (8-34, 2-30 Citrus Conference) drew first blood in the first game with a two-run single from
Gianna Scopano. The Titans answered went ahead for good with six runs in the second but the Eagles made things interesting with three runs in the fourth.
A two-run double by
Nayeli Hernandez highlighted the frame before Polk State added another run on an error to make it 6-5. Eastern Florida's six-spot in the fifth turned the contest into a rout.
Hernandez,
Jamie Reinhardt, and
Ray Hansen each finished with two hits in the loss. McKenzie Jewell finished with three RBIs for the Titans.
Polk State's final lead of the day came in the third inning of the second game. The Eagles took a 2-1 lead on
Veronica Fernandez's RBI groundout to score Hernandez.
The Titans answered with eight runs in the bottom of the inning before adding a run in the fourth.
Jillian Hudson finished 2-for-3 with the game's first RBI for Polk State. Livie Davis went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs for Eastern Florida.
Polk State will look to end a 16-game losing streak on its home field as the next six games take place at the Diamond Plex. That begins on Thursday with a doubleheader against St. Petersburg College.
