WINTER HAVEN – Polk State Softball sophomore infielder
Jillian Hudson's won't be going far as she's signed with Warner University, an NAIA program in Lake Wales.
One of only two outgoing sophomores for Polk State in 2024, Hudson enjoyed a breakout season for the Eagles.
"I chose Warner because of the coaching staff and players," Hudson said. "They were very supportive and welcoming as well as driven. The coaches want what's best for their players and I believe I will fit right in."
After hitting just .146 as a freshman, Hudson played in all 52 games as a sophomore, batting .259. She led the team with 13 doubles, three home runs, and 34 RBIs.
"I have become more confident and independent," Hudson explained of her growth during her time at Polk State. "I've become a leader and a player who can trust myself and my ability."
The only player to see action for Polk State in each of the last two seasons, Hudson was named a team captain prior to the 2024 season. As the program was in between coaches, Hudson and co-captains
Nayeli Hernandez and
Savannah Jacobs helped keep the program together.
"I'm most proud of my mental aspect when it came to softball," Hudson added. "I had to keep pushing myself and be one of the players pushing my teammates. I proved my discipline to myself."
Catcher
Jaylenne Taboas is the only other outgoing sophomore. With a slew of talented returners and a strong incoming recruiting class, the Eagles should be much improved in 2025 as Head Coach Kevin Lewis enters his second season.
"As a coach, it's always rewarding to see your players have the opportunity to continue their playing careers and education," Lewis said. "I'm very happy for Jill. We look forward to helping more student-athletes get this opportunity."
