Box Score PALATKA – After a pair of sweeps, Polk State Volleyball proved it could grind out a close one on Wednesday night. The Eagles ran their winning streak to three with a thrilling 3-2 win over St. Johns River State College.
The teams opened by trading 25-17 sets. Polk State (3-1) took the lead for the first time by winning the third set, 25-19. Following a 25-22 win by St. Johns River in a competitive fourth, the Eagles closed things out with a hard-fought 15-13 victory in the decisive fifth set.
"I'm proud of how hard this group has been working and how they've prevailed in challenging situations," Head Coach Jessica Beal said. "I hope we can maintain this momentum as we move into conference play next week."
Alexia Ortiz Munoz powered Polk State with 22 kills and 19 assists.
Ella Lopez added 11 kills in the victory. For the second straight match,
Sophia Torres was the team leader in assists, finishing with 32.
With the victory, Polk State finishes its non-conference slate with a record of 3-1. The Eagles will get an extended rest as they open Citrus Conference play at home next Wednesday night against Daytona State College.
