Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN — Polk State Softball made the most of its home opener on Saturday. Against former Head Coach Jeff Ellis and South Georgia State, the Eagles rolled to a doubleheader sweep.

In the first game, Polk State shined at the plate and in the circle. In the 12-0 five-inning run-rule victory, Dee Allen and Kaylan Mitchum combined to throw a two-hit shutout.

At the plate, the Eagles (3-2) finished with 11 hits. Nayeli Hernandez got the scoring started with a two-run single during a three-run second inning. Polk State opened things up with nine runs in the third.

Hernandez finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored. Chelsi Rae' Hebert went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Jamie Reinhardt added two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.

The second game was much more competitive but a four-run first inning was the difference as the Eagles won 5-2. Leia Hurst and Reinhardt came through with consecutive RBI doubles to highlight the frame.

Tessa Anderson went the distance and allowed just one earned run to pick up her first collegiate win. At the plate, Hurst and Savanah Jacobs each finished with two hits and an RBI.

Polk State will return to Madeira Beach on Sunday for a pair of contests to conclude the JUCO Classic. The Eagles will face Tallahassee State College and the U.S. Air Force Academy Club Team.
