Box Score PANAMA CITY — The calendar year closed in heartbreaking fashion for Polk State Basketball. The Eagles led most of the way but ultimately dropped a heartbreaker in overtime to No. 7 Chipola College on Wednesday at the Gulf Coast State Shootout, 83-78.
Polk State (4-8) led for most of the day, including 43-36 at halftime. Chipola was able to tie the game at 70 in the final minute of regulation but the Eagles had their chances in the final seconds.
With the score tied and 7.7 seconds left,
Jimmy Cami missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Polk State got the offensive rebound but missed the go-ahead shot in the paint.
Chipola's Demarco Middleton scored 10 of his team's 13 points in overtime.
Eric Dailey had four of the eight Eagles points in overtime.
Dailey led Polk State in scoring for the second day in a row, finishing with 24 points.
Tre Jackson added 13 points.
Isaiah McCray finished with 12 points in the loss.
Middleton led the Indians with 23 points. Hedrens Bartelus added 17 in the win.
The loss for Polk State is its sixth straight. The Eagles will try to get back on track when they host Santa Fe College in the Citrus Conference opener on Saturday. Tip time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
