WINTER HAVEN – A new year in Polk State Athletics has arrived.

This week will feature the openers for both Polk State Volleyball and Polk State Soccer. Each team will open the season at home.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Thursday, Aug. 21 at 4 p.m.: Trinity Valley Community College (0-0) at Polk State College (0-0)

Saturday, Aug. 23 at 12 p.m.: Polk State (0-0) vs. Pasco-Hernando State College (0-0) – Fort Pierce, Fla.

Saturday, Aug. 23 at 2 p.m.: Polk State (0-0) at Indian River State College (0-0)

PREVIEW

• Polk State enters its second season under Head Coach Jessica Beal. The Eagles return two players – Alexia Ortiz and Isabella Ramos. Ramos is the top returning player in the FCSAA when it comes to digs per set.

• The 2025 Polk State roster features players from seven different countries: U.S., Brazil, Turkey, Denmark, Sweden, Puerto Rico and Poland. It also features players from three different U.S. states – Florida, Indiana and Texas.

• Trinity Valley Community College reached the national NJCAA Tournament in 2024, finishing 1-2 in Hutchinson. The Cardinals went 24-16 overall. 

• Polk State's first road trip of the season will feature two matches against in-state NJCAA Division II schools – Pasco-Hernando State College and Indian River State College. Pasco-Hernando finished 13-12 last season while Indian River went 11-11. Both schools will replace their leading scorers.

PREVIEW

• Polk State Soccer will look to bounce back from its first losing season since 2019 as it enters its third season under Head Coach Dee Shivraman.

• The Eagles will replace last season's leaders in goals, assists, points and saves. Paula Cortijo and Natasha Muchakati, who each finished with four points last season, are the top returning scorers for Polk State.

• Polk State defeated Millennia Atlantic University last season in Sophomore Day by a 6-1 score. The Eagles do not return a player who scored in that contest.

• After a scoreless first half, Polk State fell to University last season in Miami by a 3-0 score. The Mustangs finished 9-3-2 last season and just two wins shy of the national tournament.
