Polk Preview (Sept. 2, 2025)

WINTER HAVEN – It was a perfect weekend for Polk State. Polk State Soccer improved to 2-0 on the year while Polk State Volleyball closed the month of August with back-to-back wins.

This week features five total matchups. Polk State Soccer will remain home while the volleyball team travels to Melbourne for four matches in two days.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 4 p.m.: Webber International University JV at Polk State College (2-0)

PREVIEW

• Through two matches, Polk State has outscored opponents 14-1. The Eagles recorded a 6-1 victory over Montgomery College after beginning the year with an 8-0 win over Millennia Atlantic University. Polk State didn't score more than five goals in any match last season.

• Sophomore Janessa Crespo has filled up the stat sheet for Polk State College this season. She currently leads or is tied for the team lead in goals (2), assists (3), shots (13) and shots on goal (5). Crespo leads the FCSAA is both assists and shots.

• Freshmen Riley Whale and Taylor Armstead each scored their first career goals on Friday in the win over Montgomery College. Nine of the 14 Polk State goals this season have been scored by newcomers.

• Through two matches, Polk State leads the FCSAA with 14 goals. Its seven goals per match average ranks third nationally.

Saturday, Sept. 6 at 4:30 p.m.: Polk State (2-3) vs. Andrew College (1-1) – Eastern Florida Tournament (Melbourne, Fla.)

PREVIEW

• After an 0-3 start, Polk State bounced back to win consecutive matches on Friday and Saturday – both in four sets. 

• Sophomore Marina Santos put up back-to-back double-doubles in Polk State's wins over the weekend. She averages a team-best 3.05 kills per set and ranks second in the FCSAA, averaging 0.57 service aces per set.

• Several other Polk State players rank in the top five in the FCSAA in major statistical categories. Sophomore Alexia Ortiz ranks second with a .324 hitting percentage. Isabella Ramos ranks third in digs per set, averaging 4.1. Addison Phillippe ranks third in the FCSAA in assists per set (8.43) and fourth in service aces per set (0.43).

• Polk State will play four out-of-state teams in two days in Melbourne, Fla. for the Eastern Florida Tournament this week. Under Head Coach Jessica Beal, the Eagles are 2-1 against out-of-state competition. 

• Lake Land College's Charlotte Wilkerson is tied for the national lead, averaging 10.88 assists per set. TaNeal Einhorn (.500) and Tessa Seeley (.467) rank second and fifth, respectively, in the NJCAA in hitting percentage.

• University of South Carolina Lancaster libero Vero Ruiz ranks second in the nation, averaging 5.68 digs per set.
