WINTER HAVEN – Polk State Basketball guard
Eric Dailey wears jersey No. 1. That's appropriate, because for the second month in a row, he's the top athlete on campus.
After earning the recognition in November, Dailey is also the Eagle of the Month for December. The Eagle of the Month is selected by the Polk State Athletics Eagle of the Month Committee.
In six games in December, including four against nationally ranked opponents, Dailey averaged 16.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals. Although his field goal percentage dipped slightly, Dailey shot a stellar 88% from the free-throw line, knocking down 28 of 32 attempts.
A local product out of Winter Haven High School, Dailey closed the month with scoring efforts of 25 points and 23 points against a pair of top-10 teams in No. 5 Northwest Florida State College and No. 7 Chipola College. Dailey has scored in double figures in 13 of the Eagles' 14 games this season.
As the calendar turns to January, Dailey finds himself averaging 18.5 points per game, which ranks fifth in the FCSAA. He is on pace to finish with the highest scoring average for Polk State since George Pridgett averaged 19.6 points during the 2022-23 season. Dailey is also on track to be the highest scoring Polk State freshman since all-time scoring leader Tekorian "TK" Smith averaged 19.4 points per contest during the 2018-19 season.
