Box Score GAINESVILLE — Polk State Basketball opened February with a loss at Santa Fe College on Wednesday night, 73-57.
Santa Fe was in control from the start, racing to a 10-2 lead. Polk State (4-18, 0-9 Citrus Conference) never led in the contest.
The Saints held Polk State to a season-low 19 points in the first half. The Eagles trailed 36-19 at the break.
From there, Polk State could only get as close 13. A fast-break basket from
Eric Dailey and two free throws from
Isaiah McCray cut the deficit to 62-49 with eight minutes left but the Eagles could make no further dent.
Dailey led the Eagles with 19 points.
Josh Pitts and
Moises Valdez each added 10 points.
The defeat runs Polk State's skid to 16 games. The Eagles will look to snap their losing streak as they wrap up a six-game road stretch on Saturday at Florida SouthWestern State College.
