Polk Preview (Aug. 17, 2026)

WINTER HAVEN – The wait is over! Each of Polk State College's fall sports will begin its season with contests on Friday and Saturday.

Polk State Soccer will be home for its first two matches. Polk State Volleyball will play three matches in two days in Fort Myers. 

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Friday, Aug. 21 at 12:30 p.m.: Polk State College (0-0) vs. Salt Lake Community College (0-0) – Battle at the Beach Invitational; Fort Myers, Fla.

Friday, Aug. 21 at 5:30 p.m.: Polk State (0-0) vs. Butler Community College (0-0) – Battle at the Beach Invitational; Fort Myers, Fla.

Saturday, Aug. 22 at 9 a.m.: Polk State (0-0) vs. Trinity Valley Community College (0-0) – – Battle at the Beach Invitational; Fort Myers, Fla.

PREVIEW

• Polk State will begin its third season under Head Coach Jessica Beal in Friday. Last season, the Eagles finished sixth in the Citrus Conference and reached the FCSAA Tournament. 

• During its stay in Fort Myers, Polk State will face two teams that reached the national NJCAA Tournament last season in Salt Lake City Community College and Trinity Valley Community College. The Eagles fell to Trinity Valley in straight sets in last season's opener.

• Polk State will participate in the Battle at the Beach Invitational for the first time since 2023. It went 1-3 during its trip that season. Under Beal, the Eagles are 2-4 at neutral sites. They are 5-3 against out-of-state opponents.

• Polk State will begin the 2026 season where it ended the 2025 campaign – Suncoast Credit Union Arena. The Eagles fell to Daytona State College at that location in the FCSAA quarterfinals to close the 2025 season. 

• Polk State will look to open its season with a win for the first time since 2022 when the Eagles upset No. 1 Iowa Western Community College in the Battle at the Beach Invitational.

PREVIEW

• Polk State will open the season and begin its fourth season under Head Coach Dee Shivraman with consecutive home matches against Central Georgia Technical College. The Tritons finished 3-6-1 last season. 

• Polk State is 2-1 in season openers under Shivraman and 3-0 in home openers. The Eagles have won six straight home openers and are 8-0-4 in their last 12 home openers.

• Polk State will have to replace its top two scorers from a season ago in All-FCSAA performers Janessa Crespo and Marie Narewski. Alayna Dial is the top returning scorer for the Eagles. She finished third on the team with five goals (10 points) last season. 

• Under Shivraman, Polk State is 2-1-1 against out-of-state competition.
