Box Score MELBOURNE -- Polk State Volleyball was unable to even the season series with the Eastern Florida State College on Thursday night, as the Eagles were defeated in straight sets.
The Eagles (8-10, 4-6 Suncoast) dropped the three sets to the Titans (14-5, 5-4 Suncoast) by scores of 25-19 in the first two sets and 25-18 in the third.
Eastern Florida used a 6-1 run early in the first set to take a 10-4 lead over Polk. The Eagles were able to contend midway through the opening session, whittling the deficit down to 17-15 before the Titans closed things out by doubling up on Polk with an 8-4 run.
With five lead changes in the early goings of the second set, Polk was out to a 15-13 advantage. However, the Titans quickly retaliated and ultimately outscored the Eagles 12-4 to close out their second 25-19 win.
The script was all too familiar for Polk in the third and final set. The Eagles clung to a 15-14 lead midway through the session before Eastern Florida turned things on and went on an 8-1 run to take a commanding 22-16 lead that would be too much to surpass for Polk State.
The loss snapped a streak of consecutive Suncoast Conference wins for Polk and kept the Eagles in sixth place in the conference standings. With the victory, the Titans maintained their fourth-place tie in the Suncoast standings with Hillsborough Community College.
Polk State will look to bounce back on Saturday inside the Health Center vs. No. 14 Daytona State College. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
