WINTER HAVEN – For Polk State Volleyball libero
Ana Martinez, her October was one to remember. She'll conclude the month with one final recognition – an internal one.
Martinez is the Eagle of the Month for October. The honor is selected by the Polk State Athletics Eagle of the Month Committee.
Martinez played in six matches for Polk State in October. For the month, she averaged 3.7 digs per set and 0.35 service aces per set. Martinez also finished with 18 assists during the month.
"Ana has been a tremendous addition to our program, and her work ethic, coachability, and commitment to improving have stood out from day one," said Head Coach Jessica Beal. "She brings consistency and determination to the court and takes pride in doing whatever it takes to help the team succeed. I'm proud to see her recognized as Eagle of the Month."
Over the six matches, Martinez hit double digits in digs four times, including 20 – her highest total in Citrus Conference play – against Daytona State College on October 7. Martinez finished with seven aces during the month, including three against Santa Fe College on October 17.
For the final week of the regular season, Martinez was named the FCSAA Defensive Player of the Week. Last week, she was named a second-team All-Citrus Conference performer.

A native of Mexico City and a transfer from College of Southern Maryland, Martinez ranked third in the FCSAA this season by averaging 3.52 digs per set. The sophomore finished with a season-high 28 against North Central Texas College on September 12.
