FORT MYERS — One of the state's leaders in digs, Polk State Volleyball libero Ana Martinez's sophomore season has culminated in an All-Conference recognition.

On Thursday night, Martinez was named to the All-Citrus Conference Second Team. Martinez ranked third in the FCSAA this season by averaging 3.52 digs per set.

"I'm very proud of the hard work that Ana has put in this season," said Head Coach Jessica Beal. "She's one of the most coachable players I've ever had. She fully bought into our culture. She is extremely deserving of this honor and I'm excited to see her career progress."

A native of Mexico City and a transfer from College of Southern Maryland, Martinez appeared in 20 matches in her lone season at Polk State. She recorded at least 10 digs in 11 of those contests, including a season-high 28 against North Central Texas College on September 12.

"Ana has been a welcomed addition to our volleyball program and our Athletics Department," added Randy Lee, Polk State Director of Athletics. "In one of the toughest regions in the nation, Ana was regularly one of the best defensive players on the court. This is a well-deserved recognition."

In addition to her prowess as a defender, Martinez was also one of the top servers for the Eagles in 2026. Martinez ranked third on the team, averaging 0.23 service aces per set. On Sophomore Day on October 17, Martinez set a season-high with three aces against Santa Fe College.

"Congratulations to Ana for earning All-Conference recognition," said Polk State President Anastasios Kamoutsas. "Watching our student-athletes excel in their sport, in the classroom, and in the community brings tremendous pride to our institution."

This marks the second straight year that a Polk State player has earned All-Conference accolades. Last season, outside hitter Alexia Ortiz was also named a second-team All-Citrus Conference performer.
