Polk State Soccer cruises past Georgia Military, 9-1

Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Fresh off a win over the No. 1 team in the country, there was no letdown for Polk State Soccer on Saturday morning. The 16th-ranked Eagles scored early and often in a 9-1 victory over Georgia Military College.

The top two scorers for Polk State (11-1) combined for five goals and two assists. Raisa Lugo, the top goal scorer for the Eagles, found the net just 21 seconds in and Polk State never looked back. The Eagles raced to a 4-0 halftime lead.

Lugo would add a goal on a penalty kick early in the second half and an assist. Celine Ottah recorded her second hat trick in three matches. Ottah pushed the lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals in less than a three-minute stretch late in the first half before scoring again in the 61st minute.

"I feel great," Ottah said. "I want to thank my teammates, because I couldn't do it without them. I hope we can play another good game tomorrow."

Lohrane Boaventura, Yerika Pereira, and Edjenie Joseph each scored their second goals of the season. Assists leader Jillian Johnson also found the net for the Eagles.

After scoring the game-winner against reigning national champion Eastern Florida State College on Wednesday, Lovelie Pierre tallied three assists on Saturday. Melissa Del Valle, who scored the game-tying goal in the second half on Wednesday, also added an assist in the victory.

Polk State finished with 17 shots on goal to just four for the Bulldogs. Goalkeeper Sophia Nicholls, another one of Wednesday's heroes, recorded three saves on Saturday. Georgia Military's lone goal came in the 53rd minute.

Polk State won't have much time to rest as it prepares to take on Spartanburg Methodist on Sunday on the campus of Charleston Southern University. Receiving votes in the NJCAA Poll for much of the season, the Pioneers will come in with a 9-2 record.

"It's great to start the road trip with a win," Head Coach Jess Belli said. "I look forward to taking this momentum into tomorrow as we play a really good team."
