Box Score TEMPLE TERRACE – Polk State Soccer will enter Sophomore Day on a six-match winning streak. The 10th-ranked Eagles scored four goals in the first 14 minutes on Friday night in a 5-1 win over Florida College.
Jillian Johnson added to her team-high assist total with three on Friday night. She also scored a goal in the victory.
The Eagles (14-1) were held scoreless in the first half last time out against Daytona State College but found the net less than a minute in against another set of Falcons on Friday. Raisa Lugo scored her team-leading 23rd goal to get the scoring started.
Lovelie Pierre, Johnson, and Rachelle Caremus also found the back of the net in the first half as Polk State raced to a 4-0 halftime lead. Johnson scored or assisted on each of the four first-half goals.
Yerika Pereira capped the scoring for Polk State with a goal in the 71st minute. Melissa Del Valle assisted. Florida College broke up the shutout with its lone goal in the 79th minute.
The Eagles finished with 15 shots in the contest. Goalkeepers Sophia Nicholls and Krystal Cruz combined for 10 saves in the victory.
"I'm really proud of the girls and how they've played all throughout the season," Head Coach Jess Belli said. "They continue to get better with every game. I'm really looking forward to taking this momentum into the playoffs."
Polk State will have the weekend off before wrapping up the regular season at home on Monday against Ave Maria University. The Eagles will celebrate Sophomore Day as 12 sophomores will be recognized before the contest. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
