Box Score WINTER HAVEN – In its first home match in two weeks, Polk State Volleyball sent the crowd home happy. The Eagles completed the season sweep of Santa Fe College on Saturday with a 3-0 sweep.
Polk State (7-9, 3-5 Suncoast Conference) set the tone early with a 25-14 win in the first set. The closest the Saints came to winning a set was a 25-20 Polk State victory in the third. Polk won the second by a 25-18 score.
"It felt good to be back home and I'm pleased with the way we played," Polk State Head Coach
German Del Valle said. "I'm proud of the way we've continued to fight and worked to get better."
Santa Fe had no answer for Polk State sophomore middle blocker
Kaila Ru. Ru tallied a match-best .462 hitting percentage on Saturday and led the Eagles with 14 kills and seven total blocks.
"She was outstanding at the net today and got us off to a great start," Del Valle added. "Kaila is one of our leaders and the other girls just fed off her energy."
Alanae Margaritha added eight kills in the win.
Irene Mostardini led the way with 20 digs while
Carolina Guerreiro tallied six kills and 12 digs.
Maddie O'Sullivan and
Maria Luiza Barreis led the Eagles in assists with 19 and 16, respectively.
The victory for Polk State ends a four-match losing streak dating back to Sept. 15 when it swept Santa Fe in Gainesville. The next two matches for the Eagles will be on the road, beginning on Tuesday night at Indian River State College.
