Box Score MELBOURNE – Polk State Volleyball will settle for a fourth-place finish at the FCSAA Tournament. The Eagles' 2022 season came to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 loss to No. 17 Eastern Florida State College, the tournament's No. 4 seed, in the third-place match.
The match was competitive throughout. After dropping the opening set by a 26-24 score, the Eagles rallied from an early five-point deficit for a 25-22 win.
Andrea Da Silva came up with some key kills late in the set for Polk State (11-14).
In the third set, the Eagles erased an 18-14 deficit to take a 24-23 lead. Eastern Florida State, however, closed on a 3-0 run to win the set. Polk State's best start came in the fourth set as it raced to a 7-4 lead, but the host Titans dominated the rest of the set for a 25-19 victory to clinch the match.
In her final Polk State match,
Kaila Ru led the Eagles with 13 kills.
Alanae Margaritha finished with 10 kills while
Carolina Guerreiro added nine kills and 13 digs.
Irene Mostardini finished with a match-high 26 digs.
Maria Luiza Barreis finished with 22 assists in the loss. Sofia Kamke led the Titans with a match-high 18 kills.
"The last couple matches didn't turn out how we wanted them to but I'm proud of the way we fought against three nationally ranked teams during this tournament," Head Coach
German Del Valle said. "These are great kids and hard workers. It's been a pleasure to coach this team."
