Box Score

COCHRAN, Ga. -- In an offensive onslaught on a soaked playing field, Polk State Soccer toppled No. 20 Motlow State Community College 6-4 on Tuesday night to move to 2-0 on the season.

The victory marked the second win over a nationally ranked opponent for the Eagles under third-year Head Coach Jess Belli. Polk State blanked South Georgia State College by a 3-0 score the night prior.

"We knew going on the road to Georgia for our first two matches would be difficult, but these girls did an incredible job these past two days," Belli said. "I'm extremely proud of what they accomplished." The Eagles found themselves facing an early 1-0 deficit after the Bucks banged in a corner kick in the 11th minute. Sophomore forward Raisa Lugo found the equalizer in the 19th minute, finishing build up play from Jillian Johnson and Lovelie Pierre. Motlow State regained the lead 2-1 less than three minutes later. However, the Eagles knotted things right back up in the 27th minute, when Johnson netted her second goal of the season by burying a through ball from Lugo. With three minutes to go till the half, Polk State earned its first lead of the match when Lugo successfully converted a penalty kick for her second tally of the night to put the Eagles on top 3-2. The Eagles took the one-goal advantage into the locker room. Polk State doubled its lead to 4-2 in the 65th minute. Freshman midfielder Celine Ottah notched her first collegiate goal after finishing a cross played by Marcella Koasne After the Bucks trimmed the Eagles' lead to 4-3 in the 70th minute, Polk State registered back-to-back goals in crunch time to help cement the victory. Pierre logged her first collegiate goal in the 92nd minute off a ball from Johnson. Just 44 seconds later, Ottah scored her second goal of the night by slotting a ball from Rachelle Caremus past the keeper to grow the Polk State lead to 6-3. A Motlow State goal with 4:23 remaining in regulation was all the Bucks could muster in their rally attempt. The Eagles will now get set to host Pasco-Hernando State College in their home opener.
