Box Score WINTER HAVEN- Polk State Volleyball was unable to cap off a perfect 3-0 week on its home court on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles were defeated in four sets by Eastern Florida State College to fall to 2-2 in Suncoast Conference play.
After dropping the opening set 25-18, Polk retaliated with a gritty 26-24 victory in set No. 2, in which it hit a match-high .263 as a team. Freshman outside hitter Alanae Margaritha logged five of her team-high 14 kills during the second session, including the set clincher, as the Eagles evened the match at 1-1.
Errors and miscues doomed Polk (6-6, 2-2 Suncoast) in the third and fourth sets, as the Eagles amassed a cumulative 11 attack errors and just a collective .015 attacking percentage between the third and fourth sets. The Titans cruised to a 25-13 win in set three and clinched the match 3-1 with a 25-11 result in the fourth set.
Sophomore middle blocker Kaila Ru was the only additional Polk player with double-digit kills, registering 10 to go along with her team-best two blocks. Freshman setter Madison O'Sullivan led the Eagles in both assists (32) and digs (14).
The Eagles will look to respond when they trek on in Suncoast play on Thursday at No. 15 Daytona State College. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
