Box Score HIALEAH – Sophomore forward
Raisa Lugo entered Friday's match leading Polk State Soccer with 10 points for the season. In a 5-1 victory over Florida National University, she nearly doubled her season total.
Lugo finished with three goals and two assists for eight total points as the Eagles (4-0) remained perfect on the young season. To get the scoring started, Lugo found the back of the net, following a cross from
Sara Estrada. It was Estrada's first career assist.
Florida National (0-1) drew even on a penalty kick, but that was short-lived. Assisted by Lugo,
Celine Ottah's fourth goal of the season put Polk State ahead for good.
The Eagles took a 2-1 lead into the locker room before pulling away in the second half. After Lugo's second goal of the match doubled the lead,
Kayla Banks scored her first goal of the season, heading in a corner kick from Lugo to push the advantage to 4-1. Lugo completed the hat trick and capped the scoring late in the contest.
"I'm proud of this group as they keep getting better every match," said
Randy Belli, associate head coach. "The adjustments they made in the second half really created space. We had some great build-up play and finishes."
Jillian Johnson and
Logan Fernandez each tallied assists in the victory. Polk State has now won its first four matches in each of its first three seasons under Head Coach Jess Belli.
A perfect 3-0 on the road, Polk State will play its next two contests at home. Up next, the Eagles will host Atlantis University at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
