Box Score LAKELAND -- Polk State Soccer continued to roll through non-conference play, dominating Atlantis University on Tuesday, 9-0.
Freshman forward Marcella Koasne led the way for the Eagles with her first collegiate hat trick, tallying three goals and an assist. Overall, five different players found the back of the net for the Eagles.
"It was nice to see so many different players play a part in the buildup of goals," said Polk State Head Coach Jess Belli. "We did a great job of finishing our chances and it was a total team effort."
It took Polk a little more than four minutes to get on the board when sophomore forward Raisa Lugo slotted a ball from Jillian Johnson into the back of the net. The assist was Johnson's first of three helpers on the day.
The Eagles tacked on four more goals in the first half to grow their advantage to a dominating 5-0 at the break. Celine Ottah and Lovelie Pierre netted goals in the seventh and 21st minutes, respectively, with Koasne scoring her first two goals of the game in the 38th minute and then with six seconds remaining in the first half.
Lugo and Pierre each joined the multi-goal club with Lugo finishing a ball from Rachelle Caremus in the 53rd minute and Pierre knocking in a chance from Johnson just 20 seconds later. Lugo has now scored five goals in her last two matches.
Freshman midfielder Melissa Del Valle logged her first collegiate goal with less than 19 minutes remaining in the match to grow the Eagles' lead to 8-0. Koasne completed her hat trick in the 87th minute with a strike off a ball from Yerika Pereira.
With the win, Polk State remained perfect and improved to 5-0. The Eagles will remain home to take on Pasco-Hernando State College on Friday afternoon.
