Box Score TAMPA – No. 15 Polk State Volleyball closed the regular season on a low note on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Hillsborough Community College.
The Eagles (12-9, 8-6 Citrus Conference) started strong by taking the opening set, 25-18. From there on out, however, not much went right.
After taking the second set, Hillsborough Community overcame a 26-25 deficit in the third to top the Eagles, 28-26. The Hawks put things away with a 25-20 victory in the fourth.
Keionna Mackey led Polk State with 15 kills and finished with 11 digs.
Carolina Guerreiro Cruz added 10 kills in the loss.
Faith Marquis and
Irene Mostardini each finished with 12 digs to pace the Eagles. Mostardini had three of Polk State's eight service aces. Sophomore setter
Madi O'Sullivan led Polk State with 30 assists to reach 1,000 for her career..
Polk State will be the No. 4 seed in the FCSAA Tournament. It will take on fifth-seeded Eastern Florida State College in the quarterfinals Fort Myers on Nov. 3.
