Polk State Volleyball’s Mackey named NJCAA All-American

WINTER HAVEN -- Polk State Volleyball outside hitter Keionna Mackey will spend just one season as a member of the Eagles but will leave as an All-American.

Mackey, a sophomore from Tallahassee, was named a second-team All-America selection by the NJCAA on Tuesday. A transfer from Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Mackey was recognized as a first-team All-Citrus Conference, All-FCSAA, and FCSAA All-Tournament Team honoree earlier this season.

For the year, Mackey led Polk State with 325 total kills. Her 3.87 kills per set average ranked 11th in the entire country. Mackey tallied a career-high 27 kills in a loss to Daytona State College on Oct. 4 – the most for a Polk State player in more than five years.

Mackey was a big reason why Polk State managed to finish nationally ranked in the NJCAA Poll. The Eagles finished 14-10 for the season and in third place in the FCSAA – a region that had five nationally ranked teams, including the national champion and national runner-up in Florida SouthWestern State College and Miami Dade College, respectively.

Mackey becomes the second Polk State player in as many years and sixth since 2015 to earn All-America honors. Middle blocker Kaila Ru earned second-team honors last season.
