Box Score WINTER HAVEN — For Polk State Basketball, the opponent was different but the story was the same on Saturday. For the second game in a row, the Eagles used an efficient offensive effort and a balanced attack to roll past TLAP Academy, 103-50.

From the field, Polk State (2-0) shot 51%. Eleven different players scored for the Eagles, including five in double figures in the victory.

TLAP Academy never led in the contest. Polk State led 56-27 at halftime.

"It's one thing to play a team more talented than you, but it's another to show up and play the game the right way," Head Coach Brandon Giles said. "We did that on Wednesday and then again today."

Nathan Andrice led the Eagles with 20 points on an efficient 9-for-11 from the field. Dominick Nelson and Derrick Jones Jr. also had efficient offensive days, finishing with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Nelson was 7-for-10 shooting while Jones was 7-for-11.

Ty Owens added 13 points on 6-for-7 shooting. After leading Polk State with 20 points in the opener, Malachi Stevens finished with 10 points.  Justin Daniels scored six points but led Polk State with six assists and three steals.

"For a young, talented team, you sometimes need these types of games to build the right confidence and momentum heading into the bulk of the schedule," Giles added. "I'm proud of the team and their performances these last two games."

After two convincing victories, Polk State will leave Winter Haven for the first time. The Eagles will open the Santa Fe Classic in Gainesville on Friday against Andrew College. Tip time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
