Box Score HIALEAH — Polk State Soccer started the 2023 season in a similar fashion to 2022 — dominating fashion. The Eagles rolled to victory in their season opener on Wednesday, topping Florida National University JV, 3-0.
Polk State (1-0) dominated possession but didn't put the contest away until late. For more than 70 minutes, the Eagles held a narrow 1-0 lead.
Kiana Kropp got the scoring started on a free kick in the 11th minute. With time ticking away, sophomore forward
Lovelie Pierre erupted for two spectacular goals to create the breathing room that Polk State needed.
"I'm very proud of the resiliency that our team showed," Head Coach Dee Shivraman said. "We still are waiting for a full complement of players to get back from illness and injuries. Ultimately, the sleeping giant awoke with two sensational goals late."
Shivraman picked up his first Polk State win but was not alone. In her debut as goalkeeper,
Edjenie Joseph shined.
As a field player last season, Joseph finished with six goals and one assist. On Wednesday, she performed admirably in goal, recording three saves. As a team, Polk State finished with 18 shots.
With the victory, the Eagles have now won four straight openers. Polk State will play its home opener on Saturday against Pasco-Hernando State College.
