Box Score WINTER HAVEN – For the first time at home in Citrus Conference play, Polk State Volleyball won a set. The Eagles hung tight throughout the night with a good Hillsborough Community College team in a 3-1 defeat on Thursday.
After dropping the first set 25-19, Polk State (4-8, 0-7 Citrus) bounced back with one of the best sets it has played all year. Ranked earlier this year, the Hawks couldn't mount a rally as Polk State held on for a 25-23 victory.
Polk State's fight continued into the third set as the Hawks needed extra points to take it, 27-25. Hillsborough Community closed things out with a hard-fought 25-22 win in the fourth set.
Ella Lopez recorded yet another double-double for the Eagles, recording 15 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore
Sofia Sanchez had perhaps her best all-around performance of the year with a career-high 30 assists and 15 digs. Alexia Ortiz Munoz filled up the box score with 16 kills, seven assists, and seven digs.
Polk State will cap a three-match homestand and play its final home match of the season on Saturday when it celebrates Sophomore Day against Santa Fe College. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
