WINTER HAVEN — Polk State Volleyball has had its struggles in Citrus Conference but that hasn't stopped the Eagles from fighting. Polk State fought hard in a 3-1 loss to No. 16 Eastern Florida State College on Monday night.
After dropping the first two sets by 25-18 and 25-16 scores, respectively, the Eagles (4-10, 0-9 Citrus) refused to roll over. Alexia Ortiz Munoz powered Polk State to a 25-22 victory in the third set to avoid the sweep. The Titans were able to close things out with a 25-13 win in the fourth.
Ortiz Munoz had the first triple-double of the season for Polk State with 10 kills, 14 assists, and 14 digs.
Ella Lopez and
Sofia Sanchez each came through with double-doubles.
Lopez finished with a team-high 20 kills and 10 digs. Sanchez tallied 23 assists and 10 digs.
Isabella Pedrosa and
Isabella Ramos added 17 and 15 digs, respectively.
Polk State will close the year with three straight road matches, beginning on Wednesday at Hillsborough Community College. With a loss, the Eagles would be eliminated from FCSAA Tournament contention.
