WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Polk State Softball kept the No. 19 Eastern Florida State College offense fairly well contained throughout the afternoon on Tuesday. However, runs came at a premium, as the Eagles were swept by the Titans in another Citrus Conference doubleheader by scores of 5-1 and 4-0, respectively.

The Titans (20-8, 5-7 Citrus) out-hit the Eagles (6-16, 0-12 Citrus) 17-7 on the day. Eastern Florida was .318 (7-for-22) with runners in scoring position on the day, while Polk hit .083 (1-for-12) in those situations.

The duo of freshman pitchers
Donnea Allen and
Jamie Reinhardt tossed four shutout innings to open the contest, with Allen compiling scoreless frames in the top of the first and second and Reinhardt retiring six of the seven she faced over the third and fourth innings.

The Titans were able to break through with four runs on three hits and two errors in the top of the fifth inning. A solo home run by Maci Vonderstrasse in the top of the sixth made it 5-0 Eastern Florida.

The Eagles got one back in the bottom of the sixth, when
Veronica Fernandez drew a bases-loaded walk that brought
Kagan Dudney home. This marked Fernandez's sixth RBI over the last two games. Polk brought the tying run to the plate twice in the inning, but was unable to get anything else across.

GAME TWO: No. 19 Eastern Florida State 4, Polk State 0

The Titans strung together a run in the top of the second and two in the top of the third to take an early 3-0 lead.

Polk had just four runners in scoring position for the entirety of the contest.

After EFSC made it 4-0 in the top of the sixth, the Eagles threatened in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases and bringing the tying run to the plate with two outs in Dudney, who grounded out to second to end the game.

After a 2-for-3 performance in game one, freshman infielder
Gianna Scopano was 1-for-3 in game two.

Reinhardt battled on the mound in the loss, walking just two and striking out two over seven innings pitched.

Polk State continues a busy week of Citrus Conference play, traveling on Thursday to take on St. Petersburg College. Game times are scheduled for 4 and 6 p.m.
