WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Polk State Softball seemed on the verge of its first Citrus Conference win Saturday afternoon in game two of a doubleheader versus Daytona State College. However, the Eagles' rally came up short in a 6-4 defeat after an error-riddled 13-4 loss in the first contest against the Falcons.

The top three hole hitters for the Eagles (6-14, 0-10 Citrus) hit .500 on the day and scored all eight of Polk's runs, while Daytona State (11-11, 4-6 Citrus) saw seven different individuals drive in a run throughout the games.

GAME ONE: Daytona State 13, Polk State 4 (5 innings)

Eight of the 13 runs plated by the Falcons were unearned in game one, due to seven errors committed by the Eagles.
Â
Daytona capitalized on Polk's miscues with a seven-run top of the fourth inning that earned the Falcons a commanding 13-2 lead.
Â
The Falcons were also a perfect 8-for-8 on stolen base attempts in game one.
Â
Nayeli Hernandez was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in game one with a run scored.
Kagan Dudney was 2-for-4 and scored two of the four Polk runs in the loss.

Jamie Reinhardt took the loss on the mound, striking out two while allowing six unearned runs over three innings of work.

GAME TWO: Daytona State 6, Polk State 4

After the Falcons plated three runs in the top of the first,
Veronica Fernandez evened up the game in the bottom of the frame, clearing the bases loaded with a two-out double to left field.

The game stayed at 3-3 through the third inning, as
Donnea Allen retired five of the six batters she faced in the top of the second and third innings.
Â
Daytona got the go-ahead run in the top of the fourth, as Morgan Davis crossed on a wild pitch.
Â
Fernandez recorded her career-high fourth RBI of the day in the top of the sixth, ripping one up the middle that scored Hernandez and brought the Eagles within one. However, a solo home run by Brianna Weimer to left field in the top of the fifth made it 6-4 Daytona State.

The Eagles put the tying run on in the bottom of the seventh, posting runners on the corners with one out. However, Polk State hit into a double play to end the game.

Allen tossed the entirety of the game in the loss, conceding five earned, walking four, and striking out one.

Polk State continues to look for its first Citrus win on Tuesday back at home versus No. 14 Eastern Florida State College. Game times are scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m.
