Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Polk State Softball was done in by the big inning Tuesday evening versus Seminole State College. The Eagles were swept by the Raiders by scores of 16-2 and 10-2, respectively.

The Eagles (11-39, 5-35 Citrus) were out-hit by the Raiders (27-25, 17-23 Citrus) 25-6 for the doubleheader.

GAME ONE: Seminole State 16, Polk State 2 (6 innings)

The Eagles had a promising start to the day, taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first via an RBI groundout by
Gianna Scopano and an RBI single from
Kagan Dudney.
Â
The Raiders responded with six unanswered runs over the next four innings, capped off by a monster nine-run inning in the top of the sixth in which Seminole hit two home runs.

Nayeli Hernandez and
Jamie Reinhardt each went 1-for-3 with a run scored for the Eagles at the top of the lineup for Polk State.

GAME TWO: Seminole State 10, Polk State 2 (5 innings)

Donnea Allen tossed two scoreless frames for the Eagles to keep things even 0-0 heading to the top of the third.
Â
However, the Raiders thrived on the big inning once again, plating three runs in the top of the third and six in the top of the fourth to open up a 9-0 lead.

The Eagles got two back in the bottom of the fifth when Dudney scored on an error after leading off the inning with a double to centerfield.
Veronica Fernandez also doubled to center in the next at-bat and was able to steal home in a later sequence. However, the Eagles were unable to scratch across another run to avoid the run-rule defeat.

Polk State will host its final home doubleheader of the season on Thursday afternoon against St. Petersburg College. Game times are scheduled for 4 and 6 p.m.
