WINTER HAVEN – For the first time, Polk State Softball is teaming up with The Spring Games (TSG) to bring a two-day, multi-division tournament to the Winter Haven DiamondPlex.
The two-day "Polk State Fall Softball Showcase" will be held Oct. 26 and 27 and will feature junior college programs as well as 16U and 18U travel teams. All proceeds from the event will benefit Polk State Softball.
"To partner with an organization as well-known and trusted as TSG is an amazing opportunity," Polk State Head Coach Kevin Lewis said. "We have a great college, great facilities, and great weather and we're excited to be able to show it all off."
TSG prides itself as being the "world's largest softball event." TSG partners with venues and organizations across Central Florida with the mission to provide a platform for all college athletes regardless of division. TSG aims to create opportunities for women in sports, connect coaches, fans, athletes, and the community, inspire others, and promote nonprofits that share a common vision.
Polk State and TSG are currently looking for interested travel and junior college teams that wish to participate. Participating teams will play at least four games during the two-day situational showcase tournament. The winner of each bracket will have the opportunity to play a junior college team for a championship.
The cost for the event is $650 per team. The entities are looking for 18 participating teams. Teams seeking to sign up or more information should contact Lewis at
kllewis@polk.edu.
"This is a chance for athletes to visit sunny Florida and play against top-notch competition," Lewis added. "For the travel ball players, it's an opportunity to see how they measure up against college athletes and to showcase their skills for college coaches."
