Box Score LAKELAND — If Polk State Soccer is to knock off the reigning national champions, it will have to do so in the Region 8 Tournament. The Eagles fell to No. 1 Daytona State College on Wednesday to conclude Region 8 play, 8-0.

The Falcons seized control on Risako Abe's header in the third minute. Daytona State scored five goals in the first half, which was more than Polk State (6-7-1, 1-4-1 Region 8) had allowed in any match all season.

Marie Narewski took the lone shot of the first half for the Eagles. Polk State showed a little more life offensively early in the second half as Narewski and Lulu Vester got off quality shots. Narewski had three of the four Polk State shots.

In total, seven different players scored a goal for Daytona State, including Shaneil Buckley, who scored twice. Ashley Miller finished with three saves for Polk State.

With Wednesday's result, Polk State will be the No. 4 seed in next week's Region 8 Tournament and will take on Daytona State in the semifinals. The Falcons have already clinched the regular season title.

The loss is the sixth straight for Polk State. It will try to get back on track on Sunday when it hosts Saint Leo University JV in the regular season finale. The Eagles will also celebrate Sophomore Day.
