Box Score MIAMI – For the third straight year, Polk State Soccer's season will end with a Region 8 Tournament semifinal loss to Daytona State College. The Eagles hung tough for half on Thursday night, but No. 1 Daytona State scored four times over the final 45 minutes to roll to a 5-0 victory.
It wasn't until the 25th minute that the Falcons finally got on the board. Destiny Powell scored the first goal of the match but that would serve as all the first-half scoring.
"Our midfielders, defenders and keeper were outstanding," Head Coach Dee Shivraman said. "It seemed like we won every 50-50 ball in the first half."
It wasn't until the 50th minute that Daytona State was able to double its lead. Over a 10-minute stretch in the second half, however, the Falcons scored three times to push the lead to 4-0. The last two goals of that stretch came from FCSAA scoring leader Shaneil Buckley. Charlotte Bullen capped the scoring with a goal in the 88th minute.
Daytona State finished with 17 shots to just two for Polk State. Both shots for the Eagles (7-8-1) were on goal.
Jordan Robert and
Alayna Dial registered the Polk State shots.
Although Daytona State was able to score five times, goalkeeper
Ashley Miller did a nice job of keeping Polk State in it early with a few outstanding saves. For the night, she finished with seven saves.
The reigning national champion, Daytona State will move on to face Miami Dade College in the Region 8 Championship. While Polk State's season comes to an end, it did more than double last season's win total. The Eagles' season was highlighted by a 3-2 home upset of then No. 6 Eastern Florida State College last month.
"As coaches, we are so proud of this team," Shivraman added. "We had some fantastic chances in the first half, but just couldn't put it in. Their keeper did a great job. Give Daytona credit – they're an outstanding team."
