WINTER HAVEN – After a long rest, Polk State Basketball will return to action this week with perhaps its two toughest tests yet.

The Eagles will head to Tallahassee for the Region 8 Shootout. In a pair of neutral-floor games, Polk State will take on traditional powerhouses from the Panhandle Conference.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Saturday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m.: Polk State College (4-2) vs. No. 16 Chipola College (8-2) – Region 8 Shootout; Tallahassee, Fla. 

Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.: Polk State (4-2) vs. No. 2 Northwest Florida State College (9-1) – Region 8 Shootout; Tallahassee, Fla. 

PREVIEW

• Polk State guard Eric Dailey enters December as the fourth-leading scorer in the FCSAA, averaging 20 points per game. Dailey has been an efficient scorer, shooting 78% from the foul line, 48% from the field and 45% from deep. Dailey's 3.2 steals per game average is tops in the FCSAA. Polk State's Josh Pitts ranks second in thefts, averaging 2.7 per contest.

• Ethan Simon enters the month tied for the FCSAA lead in rebounds per game with 11 per contest. Simon was held to a season-low three last time out in a 117-70 rout of Florida College JV.

• Averaging 98.7 points per game, Polk State ranks second in the FCSAA and 12th nationally in scoring. Dailey, Simon, Pitts, Isaiah McCray and Marques DaSilva-Romeo all currently average in double figures.

• Northwest Florida State College's Justin Burns leads the FCSAA, shooting 71% from the field. He also ranks eighth in rebounding, averaging 8.5 boards per contest.

• Like Polk State, Chipola College has used a balanced offensive attack this season. Sophomore guard Demarco Middleton is averaging a team-best 13.8 points per game. Desmond Kent Jr. isn't far behind, averaging 13.6.
