WINTER HAVEN – For sophomore
Jordan Thomas, an outstanding season at the top of the Polk State Baseball lineup and in center field has culminated in being recognized as the best defensive player in the state.
Thomas was named the FCSAA Defensive Player of the Year on Thursday evening. Previously named the Citrus Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Thomas posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage this season in 108 chances.
Thomas' six outfield assists were tops among FCSAA players with a perfect fielding percentage. The Loganville, Ga. native and Lipscomb University signee was also named a winner of the FCSAA Gold Glove for his position.
In addition to an outstanding season in the field, Thomas shined for the Eagles at the plate as well in 2025. He finished his final season with the program by hitting a team-best .346 with a home run and 36 RBIs. Thomas also led Polk State in hits (63) and triples (3).
"Toward the end of his freshman season, you could see that Jordan was getting comfortable at the college level and becoming an outstanding all-around player for us," Head Coach Al Corbeil said. "He bought in and continued to work hard on all facets of the game. This is a well-deserved recognition."
Thomas becomes the third Polk State player to win FCSAA Defensive Player of the Year under Corbeil and the first outfielder. Previous winners for Polk State were catcher Erik Hindmon in 2012 and infielder Dakota Harris in 2022.
