Box Score LAKELAND — Polk State Soccer continued to find its offense in the second half on Saturday. The Eagles came to life with four second-half goals in a 4-0 win over Trinity College of Jacksonville.
For the second straight match, Polk State (4-1-1) found itself scoreless at the half. This time, however, the Eagles didn't wait very long into the second half to seize control.
Marie Narewski's team-leading fifth goal of the season broke the deadlock.
Natasha Muchakati was there for the assist. That's all Polk State would need but not all it would get.
After
Kaylin Allen and
Alayna Dial added goals,
Paula Cortijo put the exclamation point on the victory with a goal on a penalty kick.
Zachtaevia Grant and
Janessa Crespo added assists.
While the offense came to life late, the defense shined throughout.
Ashley Miller and
Alexandra Van Lare combined for the shutout in goal. Miller saved the only two Trinity shots.
"Today was a full team effort," Head Coach Dee Shivraman said. "We had fantastic performances from so many players.
Madelyn English was solid in the back along with
Riley Whale and
Delight Kuboya.
Abigail Rogers injected high energy and her enthusiasm is catchy on and off the pitch.
"
Agustina Carnero gave us a lot of speed on the outside," Shivraman added. "The midfield was a force to be reckoned with Paula,
Kiana Kropp, Janessa and Kaylin. They were selfless and had great vision. What else needs to be said about Marie, Natasha and Zachtaevia? Their link-up play and hard work helps us start the engine."
With the win, Polk State has exceeded last year's win total. The Eagles will remain home for a big Region 8 showdown against No. 6 Eastern Florida State College on Tuesday.
