Box Score MIAMI – Polk State Basketball went south in search of its first Citrus Conference win of the season on Saturday. Unfortunately, the result was the same as the Eagles fell at Miami Dade College, 76-58.
The Eagles (4-15, 0-6 Citrus Conference) were plagued by another terrible start, falling behind 30-13. Polk State, however, made it a game before halftime.
Polk State responded with a 16-0 run to draw to within one.
Eric Dailey and
Josh Pitts each scored four points during the run.
Miami Dade scored the final six points of the first half to take a 36-29 advantage into the locker room. It took less than two minutes into the second half for the Sharks to push the lead to double digits and that's where it would stay for the remainder of the game.
As a team, Polk State shot less than 30% from the field. Dailey was the only Polk State player in double figures with 18 points, but shot just 3-for-10 from the field. He was 12-for-14 from the foul line.
Jimmy Cami narrowly missed a double-double, adding nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Isaiah McCray and
Moises Valdez each added eight points.
Josh Breland led Miami Dade with a game-high 20 points. Ernesto Rodriguez added 15 points in the win.
With the loss, Polk State has now gone more than two months without a victory and has dropped 13 straight games. It will try to change that on Wednesday night when it visits Hillsborough College for its fourth of six straight road games.
