WINTER HAVEN — One of the nation's highest scoring teams coming in, Polk State Baseball could get nothing going on Tuesday night. The Eagles were blanked by South Florida State College, 9-0.
Polk State (11-5) committed five errors in the field, leading to a pair of unearned runs. After South Florida State got the scoring started with two runs in the second, Dale Sutton doubled the Panthers' lead with a two-run home run in the fourth.
South Florida State blew things open with four runs in the seventh. It added another run in the eighth.
Jack Muller had two of the seven hits for Polk State. The Eagles did not have an extra-base hit.
Vincent Antuna was another bright spot for Polk State, throwing two innings of scoreless relief.
The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for the Eagles. They'll begin a big Citrus Conference series on Thursday at No. 3 Florida SouthWestern State College on Thursday.
