WINTER HAVEN – The final week of the regular season has arrived for Polk State Baseball. With four games left, the Eagles remain in control of their own destiny in the FCSAA Tournament race.

Polk State Softball will look to bounce back after a rough stretch. The Eagles fought valiantly with No. 2 Florida SouthWestern State College over the weekend but were unable to come up with a win.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Tuesday, April 21 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.: Polk State College (18-28, 10-20 Citrus Conference) at No. 18 Seminole State College of Florida (28-14, 17-13 Citrus Conference)

PREVIEW

• Currently on a six-game losing streak, Polk State would be mathematically eliminated from FCSAA Tournament contention if it were swept by No. 18 Seminole State College of Florida in Tuesday's doubleheader. The Eagles and Raiders split a doubleheader on March 17 in Winter Haven. In a 13-9 Polk State win in the second game, Calonnie Holmes, Shyla de Lautour and Kirsten Aldridge each had three hits and three RBIs. Holmes and Leia Hurst homered in the win.

• In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against No. 2 Florida SouthWestern State College, Makenzie Foster belted her sixth home run of the season. She ranks behind only Aldridge (9) and Holmes (8) for Polk State in that category.

• Polk State's Layla Hinojosa leads the FCSAA with five saves this season. She leads the Eagles in appearances (23) and WHIP (1.35).

• Seminole State College of Florida's Julianna Nieves is batting .402 for the season and ranks third in the FCSAA with 14 home runs this season. She homered in both games of the doubleheader against Polk State on March 17.

• Polk State swept the doubleheader against Hillsborough College on March 20. After holding on for an 8-7 win the first game, the Eagles rolled to a 16-3 run-rule victory in the second.

• Alexis Puga leads Hillsborough with a .357 batting average and a pair of home runs this season. She made just one plate appearance in the doubleheader against Polk State last month.

PREVIEW

• Polk State enters the final week of the regular season in control of its own postseason destiny. The Eagles can clinch the fifth spot and a berth in the FCSAA Tournament by taking all three games from Daytona State College on Thursday and Saturday. Polk State can finish fourth in the conference by taking all three games and with three State College of Florida losses to Hillsborough College. If the Eagles fail to win all three games against the Falcons, they could still receive an at-large berth.

• In Thursday's 5-3 win over No. 18 College of Central Florida, Carson Montsdeoca gave Polk State six strong innings, allowing just a run. Montsdeoca ranks sixth in the FCSAA with a 3.44 ERA. Montsdeoca and Roman Corinti are tied for seventh in the FCSAA with six wins apiece this season.

• Jack Muller was the hero in Polk State's 5-3 win over College of Central Florida on Thursday with the game-winning two-run single in the top of the ninth. Muller now leads Polk State with 46 RBIs this season. With the win, Polk State assured itself a fifth winning season in six years and 13th in 16 years under Head Coach Al Corbeil.

• Polk State will conclude non-conference play on Tuesday at home against St. Johns River State College. With the help of three home runs from Zach Lester, Polk State rolled to a 16-6 victory in the first meeting on Feb. 10 in Palatka.

• Polk State will celebrate Sophomore Night on Thursday against Daytona State College. Infielders Kenay Acevedo, Hayden Testerman, Josh Cruz and Kustarr Webb; outfielders Zach Lester and Kevin Brunet; and pitchers Carson Montsdeoca, Roman Corinti, Anthony Schatz, Jason Sawyer and Vincent Antuna will be recognized prior to the contest.

• St. Johns River State College catcher Jonathan Davila leads FCSAA Division II players with a .437 batting average. He did not play in the first meeting against the Eagles.

• David Falloon is the big bat in the lineup for Daytona State. Falloon leads the Falcons with a .373 average, 11 home runs and 41 RBIs.
