WINTER HAVEN – After reaching the FCSAA Tournament for the first under Head Coach Jessica Beal in 2025, Polk State Volleyball was recognized on Thursday for something it accomplished off the court.

Polk State was honored with the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). To earn the distinction, teams must achieve a year-long grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.3.

Nationwide, Polk State was one of just 75 two-year volleyball programs to earn that distinction. It is the first time that Polk State has received the award. The program posted a 3.6 GPA for the 2025-26 Academic Year.

"Receiving the AVCA Team Academic Award is a reflection of who our student-athletes are beyond volleyball," Beal said. "They embrace challenges, hold themselves to a high standard and understand that excellence is built through discipline and consistency."

Nine of the team's 11 members were named to the FCSAA All-Academic Team in June. Rezzan Guner, Alexia Ortiz and Marina Santos each earned the Academic All-District® designation from the College Sports Communicators.

"I'm incredibly proud of the commitment they've shown in the classroom while competing at a high level on the court," Beal added. "This honor represents the culture we're building at Polk State – one that values growth, accountability and success in every area of life."
