Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT MYERS – Polk State Volleyball kicked off the season with a pair of losses at the Battle at the Beach Invitational on Friday.

Polk State fell in straight sets to open the day to No. 7 Salt Lake Community College, 3-0. The Eagles never led in any set but did draw even three times in the second.

After dropping the first set by a 25-17 score, Polk State scored three straight points to overcome an early 6-3 deficit in the second. The Eagles used a kill from Yanelee Deida and a pair of errors to knot the set at 6-6, but the Bruins seized control with a 7-0 run that was ultimately ended by a Deida kill. Salt Lake won the set, 25-12.

In the third set, a pair of aces by Swayzee Mason set the tone as Salt Lake raced to a 9-1 lead before rolling to a 25-11 win. The Bruins finished the match with 17 aces and a .473 attack percentage.

Sophomore Camila Freitag led the Eagles with six kills followed by Kenzington Hyde, who had five and the lone ace of the match for Polk State. Jasmine Mahoney led the team with 15 assists and five digs.

Mason had 23 assists for Salt Lake. Lili Murase led the Bruins with nine kills.

 The Eagles (0-2) fared slightly better in the second match but were still swept by Butler Community College. After dropping the first set 25-18, Polk State lost the final two sets by 25-14 and 25-13 scores.

Butler finished with a .446 hitting percentage and 18 aces. Hyde had two of the five service aces for Polk State.

For the second straight match, Freitag led Polk State with six kills. Mahoney led the Eagles with nine assists.

Harlee Randall led the Grizzlies with 11 kills. Butler's Georgia Cameron finished with a match-high 23 assists.

Polk State will have a short turnaround as it wraps up its two-day stay in Fort Myers with a morning match against No. 5 Trinity Valley Community College. The contest is scheduled for 9 a.m.
