FORT MYERS — Despite a difficult start and a gauntlet of a schedule, Polk State Volleyball continues to show fight. The latest example came on Wednesday night as the Eagles were swept at No. 5 Florida SouthWestern State College in their Citrus Conference opener, 3-0.

Polk State (0-12, 0-1 Citrus) had plenty of competitive moments throughout the night. The Eagles fell by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-19.

Jasmine Mahoney powered the Polk State offense with 10 assists while Ana Martinez led the defensive effort with 12 digs. Those two also had the only service aces of the night for the Eagles.

Dublin Fitzgerald and Camila Freitag each had four kills for Polk State. Isabela Candido led FSW with 15 kills.

After six contests with ranked teams in 12 matches, things will get no easier for Polk State this weekend. The Eagles will travel to face No. 2 Daytona State College on Saturday.
