Box Score WINTER HAVEN — For the second time in as many days, Polk State Baseball went ahead for good in its final at-bat.
Travis Stapleton delivered with a 2-run single in the bottom of the eighth on Saturday as the Eagles rallied past Eastern Florida State College, 5-4.
Nelson Taylor and
Ray Bermudez set the stage for Stapleton with hits earlier in the inning. Both scored on Stapleton's clutch hit. Stapleton finished 3-for-3 with a run scored while running his hitting streak to 12 games.
Down 3-0 early, Eastern Florida State took its first lead with a run in the top of the eighth after drawing even with three runs in the seventh.
Ryan Combs struck out three of the four batters he retired to pick up a second straight win.
Although he didn't factor in the decision, the Eagles got a strong start on the mound from
Caidan Peeples. Peeples allowed just two hits and two walks in five shutout innings.Â
Scoreless through four innings, Polk State (9-6) broke through with three runs in the fifth.
Pierce Glading plated two with a hit before
Aaron Stelogeannis drove in another. After collecting three hits on Friday, Glading finished 2-for-3 with a double on Saturday.
The victory is Polk State's ninth in its last 10 games and completes the season sweep of the Titans. The Eagles will return to action on Monday for a Presidents Day matinee at Santa Fe College.
