Box Score AVE MARIA — Four matches into the 2023 season and Polk State Soccer has three shutouts. The latest victim was Ave Maria University JV on Saturday as the Eagles left with a 3-0 victory.
In goal,
Ella Sebree and
Ryann Stephens combined for 12 saves with each finishing with six. The offensive output was a complete group effort.
"The emphasis is generally on the scores and who scored, but true soccer people know that if you can lock up the other team, it gives the team breathing room," Head Coach Dee Shivraman said. "On our team, we have quiet unheralded heroes with
Kiana Kropp,
Katie Curry,
Grayce Kidwell,
Madison Caustic,
Kuhle Madlokazi, Ella and more. If they kept stats on interceptions, blocked shots, clearances, and tackles, we might potentially lead the nation as well on the defensive end."
Two of the three Polk State (4-0) goals came in the first half.
Lovelie Pierre and
Aleyshka Orellano each finished with a goal and an assist in the win.
Jessica Bailey capped the scoring with her first collegiate goal. Kropp added an assist in the victory.
Polk State will return home to take on Florida National University JV on Friday. The Eagles won the first meeting between the teams in the season opener, 3-0.
