Box Score DAYTONA BEACH — In most cases this season, Polk State Soccer has held its own against nationally ranked competition. There's something about No. 11 Daytona State College, however, that the Eagles just can't seem to figure out.
After dropping the first meeting by a 6-1 score earlier this season, the shorthanded Eagles (3-6, 0-5 Region 8) fell 6-0 on Wednesday night. For the second straight meeting, the Falcons scored four goals in the second half to turn the contest into a rout.
Polk State was without several key players on Wednesday night, including
Paula Cortijo Garrido and sophomore leaders
Anisa Lahbiki and
Dylan Fernandez. In their absence,
Noemi Casique managed the only two shots on goal for Polk State. It marked the first time that Casique didn't score a goal since Sept. 17.
In goal,
Leona Kraus and
Isabella Ruiz combined for 13 saves. The FCSAA leader in saves, Kraus tallied 11 of those stops for the Eagles.
The 6-0 defeat serves as the most lopsided loss for Polk State since October 2019. Polk State will close its regular season Region 8 slate on Monday when it hosts No. 13 Miami Dade College.
