Box Score LAKELAND — Polk State Soccer will have to wait until the Region 8 Tournament to try to notch a Region 8 victory. After a back-and-forth first half, the Eagles came up short against No. 15 Miami Dade College on Monday night, 4-2.
Polk State (3-7, 0-6 Region 8) drew first blood on a goal from
Natasha Muchakati. Unfortunately for the Eagles, that lead would be short lived.
Miami Dade came through with the equalizer a minute later before taking a 2-1 lead. After being held scoreless for the first time in more than a month last week against Daytona State College,
Noemi Casique drew the Eagles even with her 11th goal of the season.
Tied 2-2 at halftime, Polk State goalkeeper and the FCSAA leader in saves,
Leona Kraus, came up with a big save on a penalty kick to keep the score knotted. The Sharks, however, scored the final two goals to take the match.
In addition to goals from Muchakati and Casique,
Thina Ganto had a solid night for Polk State with a career-high two assists. Kraus finished with 14 saves. Casique (5) and
Zoe Torres (2) combined for seven of Polk State's 12 shots on goal.
Polk State will hit the road but won't go far on Wednesday. In their final road match of the regular season, the Eagles will take on Florida Southern College JV. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
