Box Score DAYTONA BEACH – After winning a high-scoring nail-biter on Friday night, Polk State Basketball was able to overcome a slow start on Saturday to remain unbeaten and sweep the Daytona State College Shootout. The Eagles used a strong second half to run away from Southern Crescent Technical College, 93-69.
Polk State (6-0) found itself down by as many as nine points in the opening half. The Eagles used a 7-0 run, capped by
Isaiah McAdams' jumper at the buzzer, to take a 43-40 into the locker room.
In the second half, it was utter domination. Polk State went on a 15-2 run early in the second half to push the lead to double digits and never looked back. The Eagles led by as many as 29 points.
Ty Owens shot 7-for-14 from the field to finish with a season-high 22 points to go with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Karl Knighten Jr. was an efficient 4-for-7 from deep to finish with 17 points off the bench.
Kellen Cashman and McAdams added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
As a team, Polk State lit it up from deep, shooting 12 of 27 from beyond the 3-point arc. Matthew Willis and Nicholas Stewart each scored 17 points for Southern Crescent Tech in the defeat.
After playing three games in four days, Polk State will get a bit of an extended rest. The Eagles will return home to Florida Gateway College on Friday night. Polk State won the first meeting between the schools last week in Lake City, 82-53.
