Polk State Hoops dominates Mid-Florida Academy, 109-44

Box Score BABSON PARK -- A venue change served as no deterrent for Polk State Basketball on Wednesday night. The Eagles soared to 2-0 with an easy 109-44 win over Mid-Florida Academy on the campus of Webber International University.

Polk State used a balanced attack to roll to a second straight victory. For the evening, five Polk State players scored in double figures.

Ty Owens hit four 3-pointers in the first half to highlight a team-high 16-point effort. Kenny Fields, Karl Knighten Jr., and Fray Nguimbi each finished with 13 points. Dominic Smith added 11 points -- all in the second half -- with nine of those points coming from beyond the arc.

In the victory, a season-high 12 players scored for Polk State. The 65-point win is the largest for the Eagles since a 125-53 victory over Florida Coastal Prep in last season's opener.

Now 2-0 for the second straight season, the Eagles are scheduled to hit the road for the first time for a true road game. Polk State will travel to take on Florida Gateway College in Lake City on Saturday. Tip time is slated for 6 p.m.
