Box Score LAKE CITY — Through three games, Polk State Basketball has wins in three different cities. The Eagles rolled to their first road victory of the season on Saturday, downing Florida Gateway College, 82-53.
The contest was tied 9-9 early before Polk State (3-0) seized control with a 23-0 run.
Kenny Fields scored six points for the Eagles during the run.
Polk State took a commanding 42-20 lead to the locker room. The leading scorer for the Eagles entering the day,
Karl Knighten Jr. scored a team-high eight of his 14 points in the first half. Knighten was efficient, going 3-for-3 from the field with all of attempts coming from beyond the arc.
The Wolves got as close as 12 points in the second half, but Polk State answered with a 16-2 run highlighted by seven points from guard
Ty Owens. The Eagles led by as many as 33 in the blowout victory.
Owens led the Eagles with 15 points and three assists. Fields tallied 13 points while forward
Fray Nguimbi added 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Esrael Yant led Florida Gateway with 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting.
Polk State will aim for a second straight 4-0 start when it returns home to face DME Academy on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
