Box Score AVON PARK – Polk State Baseball had its biggest offensive outing of the young season on Wednesday night as the Eagles circled the bases 12 times in a 12-4 triumph over South Florida State College. It was the 450th victory of Head Coach Al Corbeil's career.
After pushing a run across in each of the first three innings, Polk State (6-5) busted things open with a four-run fifth inning to push the advantage to 7-0. Each member of the lineup for Polk State either scored or drove in a run.
For the second night in a row,
Damion Kenealy and
Liam O'Neil powered the offense. Following a four-hit effort in a win over Webber International University (B) on Tuesday, Kenealy went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs in the win over the Panthers. O'Neil homered for the second night in a row to punctuate a 4-for-4 night with two runs scored and four RBIs.
O'Neil also doubled, finishing with the only two extra-base hits of the night for the Eagles.
Evan Wainman and
Aris Rivera each scored a pair of runs in the victory.
Wade Johnson worked four hitless, scoreless innings to pick up his first collegiate win.
Pierce Glading and
Jackson Graden each worked two innings in the victory before
Ryan Combs pitched the ninth to close things out.
With the win, Polk State avenges an early-season loss to South Florida State College and gets over .500 for the first time this season. The Eagles will begin a five-game homestand on Thursday against Eastern Florida State College. The contest has a 5 p.m. scheduled start time.
